Edu is a Fulbright-awarded artist from Tenerife based in New York City.
Edu Díaz (he/him/él) is a Fulbright Alumnus, multi-awarded actor, theater producer, and writer from the Canary Islands (Spain).
In 2019, he won the Fulbright grant in Performing Arts, which brought him to New York City and opened up a world of possibilities.
He is the creator and performer in A Drag Is Born, a multi-awarded show that premiered in 2024 at the NYC Fringe Festival and was featured at the Edinburgh Fringe, PULSE (The Chain Theatre, 2025), and in Fantastic Mr. S, which premiered in 2022 at the United Solo Festival (Theatre Row, NYC).
In 2025, we won the FuerzaFEST Best Play Award for LABIAL, a show based on the story by Linda Morales Caballero. In 2023, he won the Best Play Award for Twin Towers, a show by Esther Caporale, at the Short Play Festival (The Players Theatre). In 2023 and 2024, he produced and hosted the monthly Clown Open Mic at Pine Box Rock Shop. Edu was part of two improvisation companies with recurring shows: Hormigas NYC (in Spanish) and A Really Real Serious Collective (improv in English).
With over ten years of experience in performing arts, he produced several plays in Spain, including the commercial success Amores Minúsculos, and has performed in theater and film, including Smoking Club (129 Rules) and Third Week.
As an actor and performer, he has studied with the world's best masters, including Susan Batson, Moisés Kaufman, Julia Proctor, Fernando Piernas, Natalia Mateo, and Gabriel Chamé. On the production side, Edu has an educational and professional background in marketing and communications and was part of Next Stage, a program by Tony Award-winning Broadway Producer Ken Davenport.
